Plan big, then execute on the details. In Todoist, you can easily break big, overwhelming tasks into small, manageable sub-tasks (and break down those sub-tasks into even smaller ones if you like).

Here’s how to turn tasks into sub-tasks:

You’ll only be able to create sub-tasks inside a project. It won’t be possible in the Today/Next 7 Days views or any filtered views. We currently support sub-tasks on 4 indent levels.
  1. Hover over a task.
  2. Click and hold the grey “handle” that appears to the left of the task.
  3. Drag it from left to right to adjust its sub-task level.

When adding or editing a task in the web, Mac, or Windows (legacy) apps, you can use the keyboard shortcut Cmd+Left Arrow or Cmd + Right Arrow (Mac) or Ctrol + Left Arrow or Ctrl + Right Arrow (Windows) to adjust its indent level.

You can also create a new task or sub-task in the middle of a project list by using your thumb and forefinger to pinch two existing tasks apart (this will open task Quick Add). Your new task will be saved in exactly that spot on the list.
