You can easily import tasks into Todoist. Similarly, you can always export your data as a CSV file or a shareable URL.

Import any project using templates (CSV, shareable URL or TXT)

To import any project from a CSV or TXT file:

  1. Create a new (or open an existing) project.
  2. Click the Task actions (wrench & pencil) icon at the top right.
  3. From the drop-down menu, select Import from template.
  4. Drag & drop a template file or select it from your computer.

Alternatively, you can drag & drop a template file directly to your opened project.

Templates in both CSV (for example, templates created in Google Sheets or Microsoft Excel) and TXT formats can be imported.

To import any project from a shareable URL:

  1. Open the template URL in your browser.
  2. Select the project you would like to import the template into (or choose to import it into a new project).
  3. Click the Import button.
  4. Click the Open the web app button.

All of your imported templates will preserve your tasks names, comments, priorities, labels, and due dates the way you created them. Assignments will also be preserved if the template is imported into a project shared with the same people. Here are samples of templates as a CSV file and a shareable URL.

Export any project using templates (CSV or shareable URL)

To export any project as a template:

  1. Open a project you want to export.
  2. Click the Task actions (wrench & pencil) icon at the top right.
  3. From the drop-down menu, select Export as a template.
  4. In the new window, click Export as file and save it as a CSV file or Export as a shareable URL (you can share or save it for the later use).

Export all projects using backups (CSV)

To export all projects as a backup:

  1. In the top right, click the gear icon and select Todoist Settings.
  2. Open the Backups tab.
  3. Click download next to any backup and download it as a ZIP file containing all your projects (each project in a separate CSV file). Alternatively, you can first create a new backup by clicking Create a new backup at the bottom.

Todoist generates automatic backups of changes to your active projects and tasks on a daily basis.
